Welcome to the Product Line Studio^TM Guided Tour.  The Tour illustrates the highest level of Process Scalability, namely "Mass Customization", and hence all major features of Product Line Studio. Although some of our customers do not currently need the highest level of scalability, it is valuable for a business to have a clear upgrade path to the highest level. This Tour illustrates the upgrade path provided by Product Line Studio.  [Also see Introduction to Software Product Lines.]

The Tour guides you through the process of creating a new product for a customer using the various Product Line Studio (PLS) solutions. The tour is designed as a conversation between you, the product Vendor, and your Customer.

For this your The Tour will guided you through the following steps.

1. Your Customer uses the PLS Product Configuration Editor to choose the product options they think they want. [ Screen Snapshots ]
2. You use the PLS Scalable Requirements solution to generate a high-level product specification document (i.e. a "data sheet") for the product with the options the Customer have chosen.
3. The Customer reviews the product specification document, possibly changing their choices for existing options, and possibly requesting capability not currently offered.
4. If the customer asks for capability not currently offered, you negotiate development of the new capability, incorporating the changes directly into the product line requirements database, and consequently into their product specification document.
5. Your software development team implements any new requirements into existing or new Core Assets.
6. You use PLS to generate the software product itself using the PLS Scalable Software solution.
7. You create customized user guides, application notes, etc. using the PLS Scalable Documentation solution. [ Screen Snapshots ]
8. PLS notifies you and/or your Customer when changes to product line Assets occur which require the Customer's product to be updated.

Note that the tour is simply an example.  In practice Product Line Studio is a tool-kit that is customized for the specific needs of a given application. The tour illustrates how it could be used in a particular application.  You application will be different.
